Each tape's base material cups over the head and tape transport, under normal operation conditions the tape's "dry" lubricant accommodates the cupping of the particular tape being used. When changing to a different brand of tape, the cupping of the base material can be slightly different. This may cause dry lubricant build-up to become dislodged, which can result in head clogs, so it is advisable to always run a cleaning cassette in the camcorder for a few seconds to remove any lubricant residue. In order to minimize the use of head cleaners try to stay with one brand of tape. Q... Although both formats utilize the same codec, they differ in file structure and do not have the same NLE compatibility. '.MOV' files can be played back on any Mac computer that has the latest Final Cut Pro (FCP) installed. Quicktime will only be able to play back the files if FCP is present. To playback on a Windows computer, you will need a 3rd party utility such as Calibrated Software's 'XD DECODE'. Another utility to consider is WinFF, an open source player/converter based on FFMPEG. WinFF will also allow you to convert your files to another format, if desired. For a Mac without FCP you may wish to try the unsupported PerianXDCam component for Quicktime. The popular open source media player VLC can be used to playback the '.MP4' files created by the GY-HM100/700.” Have a question? email it to tech@provisionvideo.com
